The Glebe Healing Centre is one of the oldest natural therapy clinics in Australia. Established in 1987, this busy practice sees hundreds of clients per month and offers a large range of body, mind and ingestional modalities. Situated in Annandale, we are located one kilometre from the central business district.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

As part of our contribution to improving the health of children, we often waive the charge for children who are five or younger with an accompanying guardian.

The primary healing element in our bodies is simply oxygen. Get too much or too little and we become unstable or die. We all know that the oxygen is absorbed through the lungs and circulated through the blood in the body. A regulated increase of oxygen therefore helps with healing and assists with the detoxification.
Hyper means an increase in the quantity or quality of something while baric means pressure. Put these together and you have a system that delivers oxygen under increased pressure that often increases and accelerates the body's natural ability to heal from a variety of afflictions:

Raising oxygen levels fights infections by killing bacteria.
It creates 'free radical' unstable molecules that are lethal to germs.
It stimulates roving immune cells called 'phagocytes' that scavenge for infectious microbes.
Oxygen is conductive to the production of collagen.
An elevation of oxygen helps heal injuries.
By speeding up the healing process, oxygen may also boost immunity and the regeneration of nerve cells.
Helps with stubborn infections, sinus, bones and skin disorders.
Can help reduce swelling.

The Basics....
The relatively small increase in pressure effectively washes the internal organs with thirty percent more oxygen during the session. This increased air pressure and oxygen can also assist with healing the body. Hyperbaric Treatment has been used in many sport environments to accelerate body repair time and may create a feeling of well-being. Our Oxygen Chamber accommodates up to five people or a wheelchair bound client and two helpers. The Oxygen Chamber is set to the safe level of 1.3 atmospheres, avoiding risks associated with deeper 'dives'.

Main Stream Health Facilities
Orthodox medicine has used oxygen therapy for many years but limited funding means that the majority of the general public will never benefit from using such public facilities. Many professional sports people use private installations for quicker healing and recovery. So it may come as a surprise that sophisticated installations made available in the community at modest charges are being regularly ridiculed by many surgeons and even a few unenlightened doctors. It would be useful if they researched the facilities rather than responding as if it was competition and embraced the benefits of complementary services that they are unable to cater for.

Typical Hospital Applications

Hyperbaric Chamber High dose oxygen that is breathed at increased atmospheric pressure (hyperbaric), is used clinically to treat several types of disorders. Some of the approved uses of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) for acute medical emergencies include carbon monoxide poisoning, air embolism (sudden obstruction of a blood vessel by an air bubble), decompression sickness (commonly referred to as "the bends" suffered by deep sea divers), and gas gangrene.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been used to treat a variety of neurological problems such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, and other miscellaneous nervous system problems. The application of HBO2 therapy to neurological problems is still in its infancy and much research plus therapeutic standards are yet to be formulated.
